I can use my Docking station which has support for two DVI adding two big monitors, BUT I prefer using [Synergy|https://symless.com/synergy/] to connect the T520 with my desktop. I like to use older versions of the packages without a '''pricing''' tag, but since the software is GPL you can download the source code [Synergy@GitHub|https://github.com/symless/synergy]. Hardware

  • The last model with the legendary old thinkpad keyboard!
  • The last with Thinklight.
  • The last with the a little bit "bulkier" design note ;-)

The last of its kind of real thinkpad design I think.

I also owned a thinkpad W510 with matches in size, but it's now my fathers workhorse. The TP520 gives me more flexibility because it can be driven with a standard 90 watts power supply (using intel graphics) whereas the W510 needs the big 120 watts power unit. A little bit heavy to carry around.

For more informations see the page at ThinkWiki about this machine type.

Graphics and Display

Graphic card ist the Nvidia Quadro NVS 4200M and the build in Intel graphics ( Prime ). Display is an 15,6" FHD RGB 1920x1080, 270 Nits. I am not using any xorg.conf files.

Nvidia-settings is the default program for setting nvidia graphic cards is:

sudo apt-get install nvidia-settings

If you hava a Nvidia-Prime capable graphic card, you till get the possibility to choose from which grahic card to start upon the next login:

nvidia-settings

Bumblebee is almost broken with Ubuntu > 14.04. But with [this|http://nlug.ml1.co.uk/2016/02/an-almost-authoritative-guide-to-nvidia-prime-and-bumblebee/5065] guide I got nvidia prime with bumblebee in Ubuntu 16.04 running. That spoken means, I can run the intel graphics AND can start simultaneously a program like blender with the build-in nvidia graphics card like

vblank_mode=0 primusrun blender

I can use my Docking station which has support for two DVI adding two big monitors, BUT I prefer using [Synergy|https://symless.com/synergy/] to connect the T520 with my desktop. I like to use older versions of the packages without a pricing tag, but since the software is GPL you can download the source code [Synergy@GitHub|https://github.com/symless/synergy].
